Hanging

A thin line of light cut through the space from left to right, dividing the stage into halves, darkness and light, Sky and Earth, youth and elderliness.
The performance unfolds itself through light and bodies, revealing the story of a grandmother on the threshold of death and her granddaughter who is taking care of her. Two abandoned characters, two generations, stuck on a transitional loop of passing away, passing by, passing in, and passing off.
Hanging is a movement performance that explores the ecstasy of being hanged in-between places. When the transition state turnes into a permanent way of living, and when waiting becomes a virtue. The performance tries to articulate the shape of this undefined place, reflecting by that, on the state of being in a city like Damascus during the year 2019.
